Chief Executive Officer
As Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Chamberlain provides the overall leadership and vision in developing the strategic direction of the company's real estate group and in developing the tactics and business plans necessary to realize revenue growth and increase shareholder value. In managing American Assets' nearly $2 billion real estate portfolio, Mr. Chamberlain ensures that strategies are effectively implemented, results properly monitored and that the financial and operational objectives are obtained. American Assets fosters a corporate culture that promotes ethical practices, integrity and a positive work environment, enabling the company to attract, retain and motivate a diverse group of quality individuals. His active involvement with the Management Team and the employees of the company ensures continuity and co-ordination in all operations and activities.
Mr. Chamberlain joined American Assets in 1989 as Vice President of Real Estate Development. He was promoted to CEO in 1997. Prior to joining the company, he had a successful commercial brokerage career with the Carlsbad, California office of Coldwell Banker. In that position, Mr. Chamberlain represented American Assets on a number of retail and industrial properties throughout San Diego County. Prior to brokerage, he served aboard the D/V Glomar Challenger as a Marine Technician for the National Science Foundation's Deep Sea Drilling Project.
A frequent speaker at industry conferences, Mr. Chamberlain is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers, NAIOP, BOMA, Downtown San Diego Partnership, Citizens Coordinate for Century 3 and the San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture Public Art Committee.
